Feeling Guilty?

Feeling guilty for all the books that you buy made of dead trees? Yeah, me neither. Well, I do when I think about it, which admittedly, isn’t very often. I mean, come on. Books are so pretty. But then so are trees…  So, if you’re wanting to allay some of that eco-murdering guilt, I found this really interesting site: Eco-Libris, which plants one tree for every book you read. Since it also benefits developing countries, we like this. We like this a lot.*

*Apologies: This weekend, I finished watching the HBO special “Elizabeth I” starring the amazing Helen Mirren on DVD. In it, Mirren often refers to herself in the first person plural. She, of course, is speaking for the people and the State but, though I speak for no one save my lonesome, I’ve been having quite a bit of fun going around referring to myself in a similar manner. Suffice it to say, I’ve been an annoyance to everyone around me. In response to a joke my biblioguy made at my expense, I said, “We take umbrage, Sir at the insult you have inflicted upon our person. We are very displeased.” He didn’t think it was as funny as I did. In any case, this is a preemptive apology for any annoying first person plurals that may sneak into my posts this week. We humbly beg your forgiveness.

Thanks so much for the site eco-libris…if only all the book lovers of the world made it a practice to plant more trees, no matter where they lived in this world, I am sure this world would be even more beautiful….

You’re welcome S W. It is a beautful world and I think whoever came up with the eco-libris project is a genius. Nature gives us so many wonderful gifts, the least of which is books. Eco-libris seems like an easy but rewarding way to give back a little.
